Spinning School Lane so called because of the spinning school that used to be there, this was an old barn given by Lord Weymouth that was converted to give the poor children of the town work.Prior to this the lane was called Schoolmaster Lane.This school received some of it's funding Thomas Guy.There must have been an educational institute in this vicinity of the town for a very long time because as far back as 1384 Schoolmasters Lane is mentioned in Court records.
