In my opinion this is one of the town's most pleasant streets even though one or two
modern intrusions have inevitably occurred over the years.
This street was named in honour of Queen Victoria's visit to the town in 1843.The road
adjoining was named Albert Road after her husband Prince Albert.
Many of the town's "well to do" business people lived and in some cases ran
their businesses here. One such business was that of C.E Weale and later his son Albert who
were prolific photographers of the local area, and produced many fine postcards Along with the many fine houses the street also
contains three former places of worship, the most outstanding by far being the former
Wesleyan Chapel. There is also the former Unitarian Chapel and between the two is the
former Spiritualist Church.
