Offa's Dyke

Offa's Dyke was a massive earthwork that stretched for over one hundred and sixty miles with a few gaps in it here and there. It was designed to mark out the boundary between Offa's kingdom and the lands controlled by the Welsh. It was constructed during the latter half of the 8th century
In places the bank was up to 60 feet high and this great earthwork served as the boundary between England and Wales for hundreds of years to come. As well as the high bank on the Welsh side there was also a deep ditch. Many parts of this great work are still in existence today and a long distance footpath runs along it.
